Halloween week turned out to be frightful for Grimsby’s Joanne Clifton and Radio One’s Scott Mills, who were voted off BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing

She and Radio One DJ Scott Mills scored 21 with their “frightening foxtrot” to finish second from bottom on the leader board on Saturday.
Joanne, dubbed “Joanne ‘Cackle’ Clifton” because of their Addams Family antics, looked spookily great for her performance and Scott did his best not to let her down with his dancing.
Judge Len Goodman said of the “supernatural” night dance: “It wasn’t super and it wasn’t natural. It was fun. You did a terrific job. She made you look good.”
But he added that it was probably Scott’s best dance.
Bruno Tonioli said: “You have created your own art form. If this show was called Strictly No Dancing, you would be a surefire winner.”
He praised Scott’s “pantomime” performance as “brilliant” and added: “It was really good fun.”
Darcey Bussell said: “Great acting. Well done.”
Craig Revel Horwood wasn’t impressed, despite the “non-stop practising”, saying it had not really worked.
The pair got three from Craig and sixes from the three other judges.
It was, however, Halloween heaven for Joanne’s brother, Grimsby dancer Kevin Clifton, when he and his dance partner, Frankie Bridge, topped the leader board with 37 points.
On a scary Halloween-themed show, Kevin, dancing a tango with Frankie, of The Saturdays, scored three scores of nine and one of 10 from Bruno.
Dubbed “Kevin ‘Corpse’ Clifton” for the performance, he and Frankie won a comment of “fab-u-lous” from Craig.
Darcey said: “It was very beautiful. I kind of shivered down my back. I was so taken away with your performance. I can’t wait to see what you do next.”
Len said: “It was fantastic.”
Bruno said: “It was totally wicked in the best possible way. I had tingles down my spine. You captured the spirit of the show. Your technique was superb. Amazing.”
Kevin himself said of Frankie: “She has just worked so hard. I am so, so proud of her.”
Television viewers saw a shot of his parents, Keith and Judy Clifton, in the audience.
Kevin’s fiancée, Karen Hauer, finished second on 35 points with Mark Wright, a former king of the jungle who won I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. He is also known for appearing in The Only Way Is Essex.
They were dancing a jive and Bruno said: “Whatever you’re on, I want some. It works. Your timing was spot on. It was your best dance yet.”
Craig said: “Bravo, darling.”
Darcey said: “It was so natural. The action was phenomenal. You just didn’t stop. I have got high hopes for you now.”
Len said: “That was a sweetshop full of tasty treats. Well done.”
They scored three nines, with an eight from Crai
